Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has called on the electorate in Imo State to rally behind Senator Athan Achonu, News About Nigeria reports.
Achonu is the state’s LP gubernatorial candidate, in the upcoming November 11, 2023, governorship election.
During the launch of Achonu’s campaign in Owerri on Tuesday, August 22, Obi gave a not-so-subtle hint to Governor Hope Uzodimma, suggesting that he should prepare to leave the Government House.
Obi expressed his confidence in Achonu as the most qualified candidate to lead Imo State and encouraged voters to support the Labour Party.
He stated, “LP wants to change Nigeria. We are asking Nigerians for the opportunity. Give us a chance in Nigeria, there would be change. In Abia State, today, there is hope; that is what is called governance.
“This is because a first-class brain who knows what he is doing is the governor there. We want Nigeria to have leaders that will do what they preach.
“We know what it takes to change Nigeria. That is why we are here. We know what it takes to change Imo. I believe in the process. Achonu emerged through the right process. Vote for LP, and things will start happening.”
Meanwhile, in a related news, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appointed Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State as the campaign chairman for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.
Governor Lawal who is serving his first term in the northwest state expressed his determination to unseat Governor Hope Uzodinma, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate. He called on the people of Imo State to remain steadfast in their support for the PDP.
As the November gubernatorial elections in Imo State approach, former Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha has officially endorsed Governor Hope Uzodimma for a second term.
This endorsement was communicated in a statement issued by the governor’s media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, on Thursday, August 17.
