Following the recurring collapse of the National Grid, a man has written to Guinness World Records (GWR), requesting that Nigeria be recognized as the country with the most national grid collapses in a single year, News About Nigeria reports.

Explaining why Nigeria deserves the award, the man, identified as @GeneralSnow on X, noted that with the recent collapse, there is approximately a 90% chance of a collapse every two days.

He further said Nigeria has also broken another record by establishing a committee on national grid collapses, something he claims is unprecedented globally.

His message to Guinness World Records on their official X account reads, “I am writing to formally request that Nigeria be recognized and awarded a world record for the most collapses of a national electricity grid. As of this year, Nigeria’s national grid has experienced an unprecedented 11 collapses, with a strong possibility of reaching a dozen within the next two days.

“This frequency, an approximate 90% chance of collapse every two days, establishes a unique global precedent. We believe this remarkable statistic deserves official recognition.

“Also, Nigeria stands out as the only nation to form a committee on national grid collapse – another potential record.

“Each failure is documented publicly by the official National Grid account on X, making this achievement ‘officially amazing.’ As a proud Nigerian and applicant for this record, I respectfully request the exclusive right to receive this recognition on behalf of the country. This honor can remain with me until another Nigerian applies in the future, as the grid’s instability is almost a sure bet. Thank you for considering this application. I look forward to your response.”

While some Nigerians are lauding him for this move, others are criticizing him, arguing that making such a request is disrespectful to the country.
