Housing Minister Orders Investigation Into Kano Building Collapse

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has directed an immediate full-scale investigation into the recent building collapse in Noman’s Land Quarters, Kano.

News About Nigeria reported that the collapse of the two-story building, located in Fagge Local Government Area, trapped several people, resulting in casualties.

Dangiwa has tasked relevant officials to conduct a thorough investigation and promised that the government would take action based on the findings.

Describing the Kano incident as a reflection of long-standing issues within the construction industry, Dangiwa warned that if these problems remain unchecked, they will continue to pose serious risks to both the industry and society at large.

A report from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that two people were recovered dead from the rubble, while two others were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The minister called on state governments to take a more proactive role in preventing building collapses.

“I have received the report of the Jos collapse investigation, and we are compiling a list of all professionals involved in the construction to take appropriate action,” Dangiwa stated.

In a formal statement, the minister assured that the government would take the necessary steps to deter future negligence and unprofessional conduct in the construction sector.

He said that his ministry is working on a regulatory framework, in collaboration with state governments and industry stakeholders, to enforce building codes more effectively across the country.

Dangiwa urged state governments to be more vigilant in overseeing construction projects and to curb the activities of unqualified contractors.

He said it is important to ensure that all building permits and approvals are properly issued and that any violations in the process are met with appropriate penalties.

The minister also advised builders to use high-quality materials and adhere strictly to the original structural designs during construction.

He extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Kano collapse and wished a quick recovery to those injured.
