The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations of Nigeria (CCSON) has commended President Bola Tinubu for his appointment to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, despite ongoing nationwide protests against economic hardship.
On Tuesday, Tinubu gave his seal of approval for the appointment of seven individuals to lead key agencies and initiatives within the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
News About Nigeria reported that the appointments were disclosed by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson in a statement, adding that the new appointees are expected to bring their expertise and experience to drive the ministry’s objectives forward.
Reacting to the development, the CCSON praised the seven appointments made by the president, stating that they demonstrate his commitment to alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
The group said it believed that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has the potential to positively impact the lives of many Nigerians and that the new appointments are a step in the right direction.
The group, which represents over 200 civil society organisations and 50 million members across Nigeria, expressed their support for the president’s initiative and urged citizens to do the same.
However, they also suggested that President Tinubu consider appointing Hajiya Adenike Tejuosho as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, citing her exceptional track record of humanitarian work and intervention in the ongoing protests.
The CCSON highlighted Tejuosho’s selfless efforts to support the less privileged across Nigeria, including her role as national matron for people living with disabilities.
They believe that appointing her to the position would demonstrate the president’s commitment to the welfare of young Nigerians and inspire hope for the country’s future.
