Céline Dion Celebrates Return To Stage With Performance At Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony

Céline Dion made a triumphant return to the stage during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, delivering a stunning performance beneath the iconic Eiffel Tower, News About Nigeria reports.

The Canadian superstar sang Édith Piaf’s classic “Hymne à L’amour,” marking her first major public appearance since taking a hiatus due to health issues.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Dion expressed her joy and gratitude for being part of the historic event.

“I’m honored to have performed tonight for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities!” she wrote.

Dion also extended her congratulations to the athletes, praising their dedication and perseverance.

“All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you!”

Dion’s performance was particularly significant, as it marked her first since being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that affects her muscles and vocal cords.

She had cancelled her Courage world tour in May 2023 to focus on her health.

Despite the challenges posed by the condition, which causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms, Dion has been undergoing intensive physical therapy and vocal rehabilitation.

The singer’s return to the stage had been anticipated by fans and media, especially after she was spotted in Paris days before the event.

In a prior interview, Dion had expressed her determination to perform again, saying, “Because today my voice will be heard for the first time, not just because I have to, or because I need to. Because I want to, and I miss it.”
