The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has floored President Bola Tinubu for asking Nigerians to be more sacrificial for the nation to make progress, News About Nigeria reports.
The National Secretary of the body, Chief Peter Ameh, slammed the president in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that Nigerians are currently making the kind of sacrifices those in leadership have lacked the courage to make.
He noted that the inability of the government to secure farmers in the country, is a major contributor to the hunger in the land, adding that the president has done nothing to make farmers feel safe in their communities.
Ameh lamented that despite the human and natural resources that the country is blessed with, it still ranks 109 out of 125 on the World Hunger Index.
According to him, this is largely because the government has failed in its basic responsibility to protect citizens.
He further stated that those in government have misplaced priorities and have vehemently refused to do right by Nigerians, but rather prefer to spend money on projects such as the purchase of new presidential aircraft that require high expenditure but never deliver returns.
“The inability of the government to secure our farmers is also a major contributor to the hunger in the land and the President has done nothing to help make our farmers feel safe in their communities.
“The luxurious lifestyle of our leaders is the reason why we are in this mess because those in government have misplaced priorities and have vehemently refused to do right by our people; rather, they prefer to spend money on white elephant projects such as the purchase of new presidential aircraft that require high expenditure but never deliver returns.
“Such money should have been channelled towards the development of projects that will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of citizens,” he stated.
He, therefore, urged the president to be concerned about the situation of the suffering masses and work hard to ensure that the situation improves for those affected by the current economic crisis.
