Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has handed over the affairs of the state to his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, in order for him to embark on a one-month vacation.
The governor transmitted power to his deputy to serve as acting governor of the state in his absence.
The handover was made known in an executive communication read by the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly (BOSHA), Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, during an emergency session of the House on Friday.
According to the Borno State House of Assembly Speaker, Governor Zulum will be on a one-month vacation starting June 10, 2024.
The Speaker explained that the governor’s action was in accordance with the relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The Speaker also stated that the move was necessary to ensure the continuity of governance and the smooth running of the affairs of the state in the absence of the governor.
He further noted that Kadafur will act as governor of Borno State from June 10 to July 8, 2024.
He said, “Borno State House of Assembly has received an Executive Communication informing the Members of handing over the affairs of activities of the office of the Executive Governor of Borno State to the Deputy Governor.”
News About Nigeria reports that this is not the first time the governor has handed over the affairs of Borno State to his deputy, as he had also done so during his first term in office as governor when he performed the annual Hajj exercise.
