Lamorde: Ex-EFCC Chairman To Be Laid To Rest Today

Ibrahim Lamorde, the former chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has passed away at the age of 61.

News About Nigeria gathered that Lamorde died on Sunday morning in Egypt, where he had travelled for medical treatment.

Lamorde’s career began when he joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986, ultimately rising to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police before his retirement in 2021.

His tenure at the EFCC marked an important chapter in his professional journey.

Appointed by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, Lamorde assumed the role of acting chairman of the EFCC on November 23, 2011, succeeding Mrs. Farida Waziri.

His position was made permanent on February 15, 2012.

Lamorde’s leadership at the EFCC was characterised by vigorous anti-corruption efforts aimed at addressing financial crimes in Nigeria.

However, his tenure came to an end on November 9, 2015, when President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Ibrahim Magu as the acting chairman of the commission.
