Ogun Governor Assures Compensation For Victims Of Abeokuta Gas Explosion

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has pledged compensation for those affected by the gas explosion that rocked Abeokuta, the state capital.

The governor made this commitment during his visit to the scene of the incident, where he also ordered an integrity test on the structures affected by the explosion.

The explosion, which occurred on Saturday, claimed the life of one person and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings.

In response, Governor Abiodun wasted no time in personally inspecting the site alongside members of the Ogun State Executive Council, the commissioner of police, officials from the state emergency management agency, and other first responders.

During his visit, Governor Abiodun expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured affected residents of the government’s support.

He promised that compensation would be provided to help those who suffered losses as a result of the explosion.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun revealed that efforts are underway to develop a policy framework for the regulation of the movement of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the state.

While addressing residents, the governor commended them for their calmness and understanding in the aftermath of the explosion.

He assured them that the government is fully committed to ensuring their safety and well-being.

The integrity test ordered by Governor Abiodun on the affected structures will help determine the extent of damage and inform necessary remedial actions.

Meanwhile, several people died in a tragic explosion of a petrol tanker on the East-West Road in Eleme, Rivers State, on Friday, April 26, 2024, when a tanker carrying petroleum products exploded near the Indorama Petrochemical Company, leading to an inferno.
