Suspected Kidnappers Arrested In Delta State

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested eight suspected kidnappers and rescued four victims who were abducted, News About Nigeria reports.

The police public relations officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement in Warri on Friday.

He noted that the operation was carried out by a special squad of police operatives deployed by Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufeni Abaniwonda, and led by ASP Julius Robinson.

According to him, the squad, which was commissioned to accelerate the fight against crime in the state, broke into the dens of suspected kidnappers in the Sapele and Ughelli areas of the state.

He added that six kidnappers were arrested, and weapons, including one pump action gun, three Barretta pistols, one revolver pistol, and one locally made cut-to-size gun, were recovered.

Edafe maintained that the operation was successful as a result of the intelligence gathered by the squad about the syndicate.

“On April 17, 2024, at about 2330hrs, while working on the credible intelligence received about a syndicate of armed robbers terrorising Ughelli and its environs, ASP Julius Robinson led his team, in a sting operation, stormed Sapele Town and arrested the leader of one of the suspected syndicates known as Ibrahim Usman, a 35-year-old male indigene of Abaji Town, Kogi State.

“At about 0530hours, the suspect led the operatives to Itsekiri Road area of Sapele town, where two of his gang members, Joseph Aondohbmba (22), of Gbeji community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State and Collins Ovo, alias Gbegbes (23), male suspect from Adeji community in Okpe LGA, Delta State were nabbed,” he said.

Edafe mentioned that investigations are ongoing, adding that punishment will be meted out to the suspects accordingly.
