UNIPORT Dismisses Fake Video Alleging Lecturer’s Sexual Harassment

The University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) in Rivers State has debunked a video circulating on social media platforms alleging that one of its lecturers was caught sexually harassing a female student in his office.

News About Nigeria reported that the video, which lasted 47 seconds, was shared by an X (formerly Twitter) handle known as Portharcourt Specials with the account @phspecials.

In the video, a man and a young lady were shown in close proximity, with the man attempting to touch the private parts of the female student.

However, the woman appeared to resist his advances.

Despite the misleading caption accompanying the video, the university authorities clarified that it was erroneously attributed to UNIPORT.

The university authorities dismissed the video as fake, stating that no such incident occurred within the institution.

They stated that the microbiology department, where the purported incident was claimed to have taken place, is located in a three-storey building, contrary to what was depicted in the video.

Dr. Sam Kpenu, the Public Relations Officer of UNIPORT, denounced the video as fake and a misrepresentation.

He pointed out that the video was released by Rivers State University TV (RSUTV), not UNIPORT.

Kpenu pointed out the discrepancies in the video, such as the presence of grass outside the building, which contradicted the layout of UNIPORT’s microbiology department located upstairs in a three-storey building.

He stated, “That’s why we are not in a hurry to respond to the video. It is the Rivers State University TV that released that, so that thing did not happen at the University of Port-Harcourt. The video is fake and was released by the Rivers State University TV. We never recorded such an incident in our university.”
