Lagos Police Issues Public Apology To DJ Switch For False Arrest Report

The Lagos State Police Command has issued a public apology to Nigerian disc jockey Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, following viral reports of her purported arrest for assaulting a police officer in Lagos.

News About Nigeria reports that the controversy erupted earlier when several media outlets reported that DJ Switch was arrested and subsequently arraigned in court on charges of assaulting a police officer.

However, DJ Switch swiftly refuted these claims via her social media handle, denouncing the news as fake.

“I was woken up by a barrage of calls and text this morning. I wondered why because I know today is not my birthday. Only to find that I, have been arrested . One of the links that was sent to me alleged that I had assaulted the police.

“Now, while I am not a fan of many of our police men and women, I do not condone nor do I support violence against the police,” she tweeted.

She urged the news websites that published the fake news to retract the reports or face potential legal action for defamation of character.

She continued, “My lawyers have screenshotted every blog they can find this false news and this is defamation of my character. These blogs have till end of day to take down this false news and kindly replace with a post correcting their mistake.”

Subsequently, the Lagos State Police Command clarified the misunderstanding, stating that it was mix-up and an error on their part.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, took to his personal social media handle to issue an apology and rectify the misinformation.

He clarified that the arrested person was DJ Commissioner Wysei, not DJ Switch, and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to media organizations that were misled by the initial information.

“There is a mixup from our end. Arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei not DJ Switch.

“Apologies for all inconveniences to a few media outfits like Lindaikeji, BBC and TVC that I gave confirmation this morning.

“Apologies to DJ Switch too,” the apology read.

After the apology, DJ Switch took to her social media page to acknowledge it.
