Projects Tinubu Will Commission In May To Mark One Year In Office

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate several projects initiated during his one-year tenure in May.

Wike disclosed this during a media briefing on Tuesday, April 2, while also discussing the recently approved N1.28 trillion 2024 statutory budget for the FCT.

Among the projects Wike said Tinubu will commission are:

1. Federal Secretariat (First Phase)
2. Abuja Metro Line
3. Southern Parkway
4. Roads B6 and B12
5. Vice President’s official residence
6. Wuye Interchange
7. Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX)
8. Northern Parkway (N20)
9. Guzape Lot 2
10. Guzape Diplomatic Area
11. Five access roads to the Abuja train stations

Wike added that the statutory budget will significantly enhance infrastructure development in the capital city, with a focus on healthcare, education, and the Abuja metro line.

He said 70% of the budget is allocated to capital expenditure, with 58% dedicated to completing ongoing projects and 42% for new initiatives.

During the discussion, Wike addressed various issues, including his relationship with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike criticised some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State for backing Governor Fubara, whom he described as political opportunists.

He noted that he had expelled some of these leaders from the party, including former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, whose suspension was upheld by the court.

Wike rejected the designation of “elder statesmen” for Sekibo, Secondus, Omehia, and Okpara, adding that they previously withheld their endorsement of Fubara during the 2023 elections.

“Today, they are not only serving a boy but they are waiting for him on the road. Do they have integrity? The same people who said this governor was a neophyte, how can they bring themselves to support him?

“They wrote a petition when this governor wanted to collect his certificate in PDP, they carried a rumour on how he became chairman and that he is being looked for by EFCC. They said he was not coming to PDP national secretariat but they were surprised that the governor went to the PDP secretariat,” the minister said.
