Edo Residents Hit Streets, Protest Poor State Of Auchi-Benin Express Road

Residents of Edo State on Tuesday hit the streets to protest against the deplorable state of the Benin-Auchi Highway, News About Nigeria reports.

The protesters, who are under the aegis of Concerned Citizens of Edo State, lamented the deplorable state of the federal road.

Vehicular and commercial activities were disrupted because of the citizens who came out in their mass to charge the government to work on the federal roads in the state.

Speaking to newsmen during the protest, one of the leaders of the protest, who gave his name simply as John, said the protest was to call the attention of the federal government to the deplorable state of federal roads in the state, most especially the Okene-Auchi-Ekpoma-Benin expressway.

While expressing the displeasure of the people over the poor state of the roads, John noted that both residents, drivers, and passengers are at risk because of the bad roads.

According to him, many people have lost their lives in road accidents due to the bad state of the roads which led to the inability of drivers to effectively pilot their vehicles.

He, therefore, called on the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, to take urgent action to repair federal roads in the state, which are in a state of disrepair and pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of the people.

“We are expressing our anger and frustration at the poor conditions of the roads, which have made transportation difficult and dangerous for drivers and passengers. We hope that the Federal Government will come to our aid and fix the road so that life can become better for us,” he stated.
