The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has urged its members to ensure they embrace technological innovations wholeheartedly, as this will make their jobs easier and more efficient, News About Nigeria reports.

The President of ANAN and Chairman of the Council, Dr. James Ekerare Neminebor, gave this charge while addressing the professionals at the 1st session of the 2024 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme.

He noted that embracing technological innovations will not only make their jobs more efficient but will also keep them abreast of their duty in the 21st century.

He maintained that with the new technologies buzzing all over the world, and organisations adapting new business strategies and models as new players capture parts of traditional value chains, they could not afford to be left out.

He also maintained that, although much focus has been on the growth benefits of technological innovation, risk and control functions are also required for immense professional analysis.

“The use of these technologies will create more data, raising concerns around cyber and information security risks, as well as the fair, ethical, and permissible use of data. Internal controls will impact multiple stakeholders. Technology will impact how management and other lines of defence operate,” he stated.

He further noted that those who slack in embracing technology will be left out of the development process.

“I wish to enjoin you that there is no turning back on the use of technology, and those who do not invest in digitalization will not develop. Government, people, and companies that use technology will be smarter than those who do not.

“Future digital transactions will be largely driven by AI, blockchain, and data analytics. Good governmental and organisational leadership will be critical to guiding this journey successfully,” he added.
