On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu directed that the National Pledge be mandatorily recited after the National Anthem at every official and public engagement in the nation, News About Nigeria reports.
According to him, this is to ensure that the people respect the national symbols and to also strengthen their allegiance to Nigeria.
Tinubu, who said this in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, added that reciting the National Pledge would also help in preserving Nigeria’s ethos and defining her character.
In the statement, which was titled, ‘President Tinubu directs mandatory recitation of the national pledge after the national anthem at official engagements,’ the President also charged Nigerians to abide by established laws that would help build the nation.
Tinubu further stated that the consistent recitation of the National Pledge would also serve as a reminder to Nigerians that, as a people, they are to be committed to the core values that the nation is made up of.
He also added that, since it is the responsibility of Nigerians to be faithful, loyal, and honest and to serve the nation with their strength, they should consistently recite the National Pledge as a reminder.
He further called on Nigerians to promote the nation’s ideals and to always be proud of representing the nation at all times.
The President also expressed his joy about the performance of the Super Eagles against the South Africans’ Bafana Bafana on Wednesday night, noting that their victory shows their unrelenting commitment to Nigeria.
