Former Super Eagles player Kanu Nwankwo has stated that the Super Eagles will emerge as winners of the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) News About Nigeria reports.
He made this known in a video posted on his X account on Wednesday.
According to the Nigerian football legend, the Nigerian football team, which is slated for a semi-final showpiece against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa today, will advance to the finals and win the tournament.
He commended the Super Eagles for their efforts so far, noting that they have done the nation proud. He added that he is optimistic that the eagles will return victorious.
“This is our cup. It’s coming back home. Come on, Super Eagles! Come on, you can do this! It is remaining only two games, history to be made,” he said.
Kanu, who was a two-time African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999, further reiterated that he had previously stated that the Super Eagles would make it to the finals, maintaining that they would win the tournament.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to give them the utmost support, pray for them, and wish them the best of luck in their match with Bafana Bafana today and their subsequent match.
He also urged the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, to bring back home the trophy, which was last won in 2019.
The semi-final match is slated to be played at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, and this marks the fourth tournament meeting between Nigeria and South Africa, with the Eagles winning the previous three games.
