Police To Investigate Killing Of Two Akwa Ibom Clerics

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed a yet-to-be-identified robbery suspect at the Abbey Hostel in Ode Remo, Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, News About Nigeria reports.

The state police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this on Thursday, stating that other suspects who were able to escape did so with various degrees of injuries.

The robbery incident took place in the early hours of Thursday morning, at about 1:30 a.m. at the hostel when four suspected robbers stormed the area and started raiding the hostel.

A source who pleaded anonymity stated that the students were dispossessed of their mobile phones and other electronic gadgets during the operation and at gunpoint.

The source noted that one of the residents had alerted the police while the robbery was going on and commended the police for their swift response.

However, upon sighting the police, the robbers engaged in a gun duel and started shooting at the anti-crime patrol team dispatched to the hostel to rescue the students from their assailants.

The PPRO also noted that while one of the suspects was neutralised, others were left with bullet wounds, adding that the security operatives were able to recover some of the items taken from the students, including five iPhones, one techno phone, a wristwatch, an iPod, and a power bank.

He assured the people that efforts are being made and will be intensified to ensure that the suspects are apprehended and face judgement.

He also urged residents to take precautionary measures to ensure they were safe.
