How I Was Assaulted At An Event In Owerri – Okey Bakassi

Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi, whose real name is Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, has revealed that he was physically assaulted during an event in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

News About Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred while Bakassi was performing his duties as the Master of Ceremonies (MC) at the event.

On his Instagram account on Saturday, Bakassi shared a video detailing the unfortunate experience.

He explained that the attack happened after he requested a group of attendees to step aside and allow a free flow of wedding photographs to be taken.

The comedian said that he was only trying to ensure the smooth running of the event.

According to Bakassi, the situation escalated when the people he had asked to move aside became aggressive, issuing threats and engaging in hostile behavior.

He decided to step aside to avoid confrontation, but one of the people attacked him from behind.

Fortunately, the Department of State Services (DSS) quickly intervened, rescuing Bakassi from the assault.

The comedian expressed gratitude for the timely response of the Imo State DSS director and his team, who escorted him safely back to his hotel after the incident.

Bakassi, who has been a professional MC for 30 years, pledged to seek justice for the assault, stating that he was not looking for trouble but was determined to ensure accountability for the attack on him while carrying out his professional duties.

The comedian stated that he would cooperate with the police investigation to identify and apprehend the assailants.

“I know we live in dangerous times but I will get justice, I will find them. Thank God for the quick response of the Imo State director of DSS and men of the DSS who came to escort me back to my hotel after the event.

“Nobody knows what plans they had and what would have happened but I will let the police do their job, there’s no way I won’t get justice. I look for nobody trouble but for somebody to assault me just in the cause of doing my job, I will definitely get justice,” he said.
