Four Robbers Bag Death Sentence In Ekiti

Four men, identified as Segun Friday (39), Tijani Seun (27), Ogunyemi Olanrewaju (29) and Adebayo Tope (23), were sentenced to death by an Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division on Wednesday, for armed robbery.

News About Nigeria gathered that the suspects had been tried and found guilty on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

According to the charge against them, they had conspired to commit felony and had robbed one Adeleke Abiodun, relieving him of his Bajaj motorcycle.

The court also revealed that this took place at the Irare Village, Erinmope in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, within its jurisdiction, on December 24, 2018.

It added that the suspects were armed with various offensive and dangerous weapons.

While giving his testimony before the court, the victim, who is a motorcyclist, recounted how the four suspects had conspired together, strangulated him and disposed of his motorcycle.

He stated that an alarm had been raised after he narrated his ordeal to a couple who were returning from their farm, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.

The apprehended suspects thereafter led operatives of the police force to the hiding place of his accomplices in the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti where other members of the gang were arrested but maintained that the motorcycle was nowhere to be found to date.

The prosecutor, Julius Ajibare, called three witnesses and presented the defendants’ testimonies as exhibits to prove his case, while the defendants testified through their counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke.

Justice Adekunle Adeleye after all pieces of evidence were tendered, found them guilty beyond any reasonable doubt in count one (conspiracy) and count two (armed robbery) as charged, and subsequently sentenced the suspects to death.
