Three individuals, identified as Taiwo Oredoyin, Taiwo Kuti, and Folorunsho Saheed, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly robbing and raping students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade.

News About Nigeria gathered that the suspects were apprehended on Monday, November 27, during a stop-and-search operation conducted by the police in the Ode and Ipara Remo communities.

In a statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday, the Ogun State Police Command announced significant progress in apprehending the suspected armed robbers and rapists.

Odutola added that several firearms and ammunition had been recovered from the robbers, who had a track record of invading Ode Remo and Ipara, raping female students, and terrorizing the tertiary institutions in that area.

He further stated that the suspects had initially denied any involvement in the attacks on the institution until a victim of their latest robbery operation identified one of the three-man gang of young men terrorizing the Polytechnic.

Odutola revealed that a proactive operation had been conducted based on intelligence received. This, he noted, followed a security summit organized by the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, in response to recent shooting incidents at Gateway Polytechnic.

Recall that a private hostel at the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, was recently attacked, where some students were robbed of their personal belongings, and some female students were allegedly sexually molested.

However, the suspects attempted to evade arrest by resorting to violence, but they were eventually apprehended.”
