Federal High Court Denies Shaibu's Request To Halt Impeachment Proceedings

Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has stated that he will emerge victorious against the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki’s candidate in the upcoming PDP party primary election in the state,  News About Nigeria reports.

The Deputy Governor made this statement during a TVC programme.

Shaibu reiterated his determination to defeat the preferred candidate of the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Shaibu made this declaration barely 24 hours after formally announcing his intention to compete for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket in the forthcoming party primaries.

It was also reported that Shaibu inaugurated his campaign office immediately after the announcement in Benin City, the capital of the state, witnessed by a large gathering of party supporters.

Stressing his courage, he stated that the people of Edo state desired a governor of their own and not a candidate imposed on the citizenry – a subtle dig at the politics that is about to play out in the state.

He noted that the misunderstanding between him and Obaseki arose because he allowed certain persons with an interest in governance to come between their relationship.

He said the Governor is operating his own style of doing things, while he is embarking on how he believes things should be managed.

Shaibu added that he has experienced intimidation and oppression but has been able to overcome it because he was only pressed and not oppressed.

The deputy Governor asserted that he is the best candidate to succeed Obaseki, adding that nobody can stop his ambition to become the next governor of the state.
