The football community is in mourning as Ghanaian international player Raphael Dwamena, aged 28, tragically passed away after collapsing during a match.

The Ghana Football Association conveyed their condolences, acknowledging Dwamena’s dedicated service to the national team.

News About Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred in the 23rd minute of a match, and despite immediate transportation to the hospital, Dwamena was pronounced dead.

The footballer had been managing a pre-existing heart condition, utilising an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator.

His health challenges came to light during a failed medical examination with Brighton, where he was set to join but couldn’t due to the heart issue.

While official details on Dwamena’s death are yet to be released, video footage circulated on social media showing the player collapsing on the pitch during an Albanian top division match between KF Egnatia, Dwamena’s team, and Partizani.

Dwamena previously experienced a collapse in October 2021 during a match in Austria but recovered and returned to play.

Throughout his career, he played for clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, and Albania.

Levante, one of Dwamena’s former teams, expressed condolences in a statement.

““On behalf of Levante, we would like to express our sincere condolences for the death of our former player, Raphael Dwamena,” the club said in a statement.

The footballer made a significant impact during his career, earning nine appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana and scoring on his national team debut.

Ghana Football Association in its statement, wrote; “Our thoughts are with the family of Raphael Dwamena at this difficult time.

“Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing. We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse. Rest In Peace Raphael.”
