The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has stated that insecurity has crippled several businesses establishments in the state
News About Nigeria gathered that Anyanwu made this known during an interactive session with Imo State indigenes in Lagos.
According to him, Imo State was known as the home of hospitality in the South East and had the largest number of hospitality industry, hotels included but it is no longer so now, as many businesses had shut down due to insecurity.
He noted that over 60 per cent of hotels in the state are currently up for sale due to low patronage, which he claimed was based on government-induced insecurity.
He maintained that any government that does not protect the lives of its people is a failed government.
According to him, that is the first cardinal point of a responsible government as contained in the constitution.
He also noted that any sincere and honest government who fails in this responsibility would do the honourable thing and resign.
He further noted that the unemployment rate in the state was skyrocketing on a daily basis, stating that the state has the highest percentage of unemployment with 57.8 per cent currently.
Anyanwu attributed unemployment to the increasing rate of insecurity in the state, noting that insecurity was bound to abound when a larger percentage of the population were without gainful employment.
He maintained that the frustration and desperation in Imo State is second to none stating that people were ending their lives because they had no hope for the future
