Federal High Court Accuses Yahaya Bello Of Attempting To Truncate Criminal Case

Bishop Matthew Kukah, co-convener of the National Peace Committee, has lambasted Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello for the state’s ongoing violence ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial election.

On Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Kukah voiced dissatisfaction with Bello’s leadership, claiming that the governor, recognised for being the youngest in the country, had fallen short of expectations.

He said, “I feel very sad because Kogi has been on the front burner, and Yahaya Bello, the governor, prided himself on being the youngest governor and being a representation of what the youths of this country can do if they are given the opportunity.”

Bello’s performance, according to Kukah, has not demonstrated the promise of youthful leaders.

“Sadly, I think he’s been a very poor advertisement for what young people can do”, Bishop Kukah asserted.

Governor Yahaya Bello took over as governor of Kogi State in 2015 after the death of Abubakar Audu, who had won the gubernatorial election on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress but died before being sworn in. Bello was re-elected in November 2019.

News About Nigeria gathered the allegations are levelled against Governor Bello ahead of the approaching gubernatorial elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states on November 11.

Yesterday, Kogi’s State SDP governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka, accused Governor Yahaya Bello of being behind an attempt to assassinate him using the Nigeria security operatives in Kogi.

Ajaka stated, “This heinous act orchestrated by the security chiefs in Lokoja is a clear manifestation of the desperate efforts by the State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to assassinate me and obstruct the federal government’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair election in Kogi this weekend.”
