The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mohammed Barde, has been redeployed ahead of the Governorship Election scheduled for November 11th in the State.

This information was revealed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Sunday in Abuja, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the IGP, the Force is aware of various allegations made against the Commissioner of Police in Imo State on social media.

He clarified that the Commissioner is being redeployed not because he was found guilty of the allegations levelled against him but to maintain impartiality for the off-season Governorship Election, which is to be held on November 11th.

It will be recalled that the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, was attacked and brutalized while mobilizing workers for a protest over unpaid wages in Imo state.

Suspected state agents and security operatives had attacked Ajaero and other labour leaders, causing various degrees of injuries.

This included those who had gathered at the NLC State secretariat to initiate a scheduled protest over pending labour issues.

The attack on Ajaero, which left him hospitalized, sparked outrage among the Labor Party and its supporters, who are demanding swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The party also called for the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in the state and other officials who were allegedly involved in the attack on Ajaero and others in the state.
