Gov. Adeleke Knocks EFCC For Raid On OAU Students

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on some students at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, News About Nigeria reports.

Adeleke said the commission must abide by rules and regulations in the fight against corruption.

EFCC had arrested 69 undergraduate students of the most prestigious university as internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) after raiding them late at night and seizing their mobile phones and laptops.

The EFCC on Wednesday paraded students around its zonal office in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, claiming that the students were raided in Oduduwa Estate area of ​​Ile-Ife because they suspected internet fraud. activities. “Complaints”.

However, in a tweet, Mr Adeleke complained that the anti-corruption agency was doing its job without adhering to laws and regulations.

However, he pointed out that the anti-corruption agency started the process of releasing the detained student whose hotel was seized this morning.

The Governor’s Office asked the attorney general’s office, student organizations and the police to protect students’ home education rights.

“I have just received a briefing indicating that @officialEFCC has initiated the process of releasing the students from @OAUniversity who were arrested during the morning raid. I have strongly emphasized that strict adherence to due process and the rule of law must be maintained.

“I have instructed the state’s Attorney General to work with the school administration, leadership of the Student Union, and the @officialEFCC to safeguard the rights of the students and ensure that due process is meticulously adhered to. I will continue to keep close watch,” he said in his tweet.
