Matthew Precious Kelechi and Amakor Johnson, popularly known as the Happie Boys, have reportedly been deported back to Nigeria after one year on a scholarship in Cyprus.

News About Nigeria has learned that the Happie Boys arrived in Nigeria on Monday evening, October 30, 2023, following the revocation of their residence permit in Cyprus.

Recall that weeks ago, reports filtered in that Happie Boys were arrested in Cyprus. A man who claimed to be close to them shed light on why they were arrested and how they risked deportation.

Their return was shared in a now-viral post by media personality Bolanle Cole on X, which reads, “BREAKING: Happie Boys deported to Nigeria from Cyprus. They arrived in Nigeria last night and are staying in one hotel in Utako, Abuja.”

In 2022, Nigerian cleric and the founder of Omega Power Ministries, OPM, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, awarded them a scholarship after they lost their jobs due to their dancing while on duty. However, they fell out with Apostle Chinyere and were subsequently imprisoned in Cyprus.

However, their story took a different turn when they reportedly fell out with the OPM founder, which marked the beginning of their troubles while living abroad and eventually resulted in their deportation back to Nigeria after they were imprisoned.

Although the cause of their dispute with Apostle Chibuzor remains unclear, it is alleged that the Happie Boys had started living an “unseemly” lifestyle during their time in Cyprus, causing concerns for their benefactor, Apostle Chinyere.

It was also gathered that Apostle Chibuzor had initially offered to sponsor their return to Nigeria after their misunderstanding, but they refused before they were eventually arrested and deported.
