Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has addressed the backlash she received after hosting a fundraiser for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor, Hope Uzodinma, in Imo State.

The actress, who has been a vocal supporter of the Labour Party and had openly criticised the APC government, drew widespread attention when she hosted the fundraiser alongside comedian Okey Bakassi in Owerri on Thursday night.

News About Nigeria gathered that the event was organised to raise funds for Governor Hope Uzodinma, who is set to rerun in the governorship election.

Videos and images from the fundraiser began circulating on social media, leading to a barrage of criticism against Kate Henshaw.

Reacting to the backlash on Friday morning, Kate Henshaw revealed that she was alerted by a close friend who informed her that she was trending online.

In her defence, she explained that she was invited to host the fundraiser alongside her colleague, a decision she made willingly.

She expressed her surprise at the fuss generated by her involvement.

Furthermore, Kate emphasised her commitment to speaking her truth as she sees it, highlighting the distinction between herself and others.

“Someone called me this morning to check the X app. I was invited to host a fundraiser alongside my colleague. I accepted, my prerogative. What is the noise about? The difference between you and me is that I will still speak my truth as I see fit. End of.”

After addressing the situation, she humorously noted that it was time for some coffee and water to wake herself up after a long night.
