The Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, dismissed the petition of the Labour Party, LP, and its governorship candidate in Rivers State, Abuja, Beatrice Itubo against the election of the Governor of the state, Simnalayi Fubara, News About Nigeria reports.

The court rejected the petition brought forward by the LP’s candidate challenging the victory of Fubara of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 18 governorship election.

According to the result by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the governor secured; 302,614 votes, defeating Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 95,274 votes in the election.

The LP candidate, Itubo who had approached the tribunal to nullify the election of Governor Fubara, and declare her winner of the polls, came third in the election.

The court’s decision comes after a petition was filed by the LP and APC candidates, contesting Fubara’s victory.

Following the adoption of final written addresses and arguments from all parties, the three-member panel of the Tribunal led by Justice Cletus Emifonye dismissed the petition for lacking in merit and for failing to prove their allegations.
