Former Flying Eagles head coach, John Obuh, has assumed the role of Abia Warriors chairman, replacing Emeka Inyama, according to information gathered by News About Nigeria.

This appointment is part of the ongoing reforms taking place in Abia State’s sporting sector, following the election of the new state governor, Dr. Alex Otti. Dr. Otti, who ended the 24-year reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is spearheading changes to enhance the state’s sports landscape.

Abia Warriors is one of the two prominent football clubs in the state, with Enyimba being the second. Enyimba is one of Nigeria’s leading football clubs and recently emerged victorious in the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Recently, the state government announced the appointment of Kanu Nwankwo as the new chairman of Enyimba FC, succeeding Anyansi-Agwu, who was relieved of his duties despite leading the club to numerous triumphs over a span of 24 years.

Following his predecessor’s accomplishments, Obuh will now assume the responsibility of overseeing the affairs of the Umuahia-based club. He previously guided the club to the NPFL while progressing through the ranks.

This position marks Obuh’s first job since 2019 when he served as the coach of Akwa United in the Nigeria Premier League.

The 63-year-old has had a notable career in Nigerian football, managing various clubs in the league. Recently, he was involved with the AS Roma Academy in Abuja.

Undoubtedly, this role presents one of the most challenging tasks for Obuh, as he transitions from primarily being a coach to managing the affairs of a football club.

Throughout his illustrious managerial career, Obuh has overseen the operations of several clubs, including Niger Tornadoes, Kwara United, Sharks United, and Rangers Football Club.
