Adesua Etomi-Wellington has recounted her reaction when her husband, Bankole Wellington, alias Banky W, announced his intention to enter politics, News About Nigeria reports.

Banky W announced his intention to compete for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the Modern Democratic Party on November 11, 2018.

On February 23, 2019, he lost the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency election to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress.

In the 2023 elections, he ran on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket and lost to the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Attah Thaddeus.

Wellington declared his defection from the Modern Democratic Party to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 general election, intending to run on the party’s ticket for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria’s House of Representatives.

Banky W obtained the Peoples Democratic Party nomination to run as the party bearer for the Eti Osa constituency in the 2023 election in June 2022.

However, the Presidential and Federal House of Representatives elections held on February 25, 2023, were won by the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Attah Thaddeus, which resulted in Banky W losing the Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria for the second time. The result was proclaimed by the INEC Returning Officer, however, the party agents did not concur.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, Adesua said she was first “worried” and “disturbed” when the musician declared his ambition to join political politics.

She eventually changed her mind, saying that “purpose is more important than fear.”

She said:

“When Banky said that he wanted to go into politics, I was a little bit worried and disturbed about it.

“But I also believe that purpose is more important than fear. And I want to see him fulfil his purpose. So, he has my support 100 per cent.”
