Popular Colombian superstar Shakira has revealed the harrowing experience that led to her separation from her estranged lover and former Spain international, Gerard Piqué, News About Nigeria reports.
The couple, who had been together since 2010, recently ended their relationship due to allegations of infidelity on Piqué’s part.
Although they never officially married during their 12-year union, they share two sons together: Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
Back in 2014, the pop sensation publicly stated that she and Piqué had no intentions of getting married, much to the disappointment of many at the time.
Prior to her relationship with Piqué, Shakira was married to a lawyer named Antonio de la Rúa, who happened to be the son of the then-Argentine president, Fernando de la Rúa.
Their fans and celebrities alike had romanticized her relationship with the Barcelona legend, with some even suggesting that their connection was destined due to them sharing the same birthday, February 2, albeit with a 10-year age difference (Shakira being 42 and Piqué being 32).
However, the singer has now revealed the details of her former lover’s betrayal, leading to a highly publicized separation between the two.
During an interview with People en Español magazine, the award-winning singer disclosed how Piqué cheated on her while her father was in the intensive care unit, despite the fact that her 91-year-old father eventually recovered.
“Everything fell apart at once, and my world crumbled. I discovered through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.
“At that moment, I didn’t think I would make it through. The man I loved most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him the most. I couldn’t even speak to him or seek advice from my closest friend, which I desperately needed,” she shared.
