Former Liverpool player Naby Keita has opened up on his reason to join Werder Bremen from Liverpool on a free transfer, News About Nigeria reports.

Keita, who struggled to secure regular playing time under Jurgen Klopp’s management, was confirmed as a Bremen player on Saturday.

Despite impressing in the few games he featured in during the 2022/23 season, he found himself spending a significant portion of his time on the bench in England.

In an interview with Werder TV, the Guinean professional footballer said while many are wondering why he signed for Bremen, he is more focused on the club’s future prospects.

“I understand that many people are wondering why I am making the move from Liverpool FC to Werder Bremen, When I spoke to the coach and the sporting director, they told me about the club’s project.”

Keita said he had thought over the decision with his family before making the move. He further submitted that his intention is to help contribute to the club’s growth.

“After that, I thought about it a lot, with my family too. In the end, I had to make a decision and I chose Werder Bremen. I am very happy with this decision and will give everything to the team in the coming season.

“When I was in England, I kept watching the Bundesliga and saw that there were many talented young players. Now I’m back and I’ll work even harder to help my team,” he added.

While Liverpool is currently in the business of recruiting new stars for the club ahead of next season, they have also opened their doors to some players who wish to leave.

Among those who have now left the English side at the end of the 2022/23 season are Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
