Legendary boxer, Roy Jones Jr has advised Anthony Joshua to avoid fighting Deontay Wilder and focus on building his relationship with his new trainer Derrick James.

Joshua has suffered some humiliating moments recently, conceding consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

However, he prevailed in a unanimous decision win over Jermaine Franklin at London’s O2 Arena on April 1.

News About Nigeria gathered that the Nigerian-born has been linked to a fight with his long-time rival Wilder on a Saudi Arabian mega-card that could also feature an undisputed fight between Usyk and Tyson Fury.

Recall that Joshua, two-time heavyweight champion recently said that he will be fighting Wilder in December, meanwhile, Roy Jones Jr thinks it is a bad idea.

Speaking to newsmen, Jones Jr said “it’s a very tough fight for him.

“I love AJ to death and I think he’s a great fighter. But his issue right now is dealing with punches coming back at him, so you don’t want to fight Wilder.

“Those punches that will be coming at you from him are different to anybody else in the division, so he’s got to go get that taken care of before he goes in front of Wilder,” Jones Jr added.

He further thinks Joshua should focus on building a working relationship with his new trainer Derrick James, before booking big fights.

Jones Jr noted that in some cases, it takes time for a fighter and trainer to get along with each other and that should be the focus of Joshua for now.
