Fun seekers and workers of a nightclub in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state have condemned the action of the officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for allegedly torturing them during a raid.

News About Nigeria gathered that the EFCC officials invaded the facility of the Lakers Lounge Hotel and Bar at around 11:30 pm on Friday, June 3rd.

The officials were armed with guns and they didn’t show any warrant for the operation but they allegedly ordered both the customers and workers of the club to lay down on the floor like they were criminals, seizing all their phones and beating up those who refused to comply to their instructions.

Furthermore, they went ahead to tie them up in pairs, destroying the club’s property, harassing and infringing their rights as a citizen.

One of the workers said that the officials came in and removed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the camera room, took all the hard drives and cut all the wires. This made them realize that the operation was unauthorized.

“Business activities in the club is not booming anymore as people do not want to patronize after hearing about the raid,” said Ajoke Quadri, the Human Resource Manager of the club.

She further added that most people had to go to Ibadan to retrieve their phones and some up till now have not been able to get it back.

However, it was said that the raid was conducted with the aim of going after those involved in cybercrime popularly known as yahoo boys. Some of those taken into custody are yet to be released.
