Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has predicted that Chelsea will make English Premier League (EPL) top four next season, following the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, News About Nigeria reports.
Chelsea ended a devastating EPL campaign on Sunday with a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United, finishing twelve on the league table, the worst the club has recorded in the past two decades.
Meanwhile, Owen Hargreaves has placed his bet on Chelsea’s new coach, Mauricio Pochettino, stating that the club is on the right track to making Premier League top four teams next season.
He said that the two-time Champions League winners made the best appointment, recalling Pochettino’s records with other clubs in England and France.
Pochettino’s appointment was announced on Monday by Chelsea, to take up the responsibility of managing the West London team from caretaker manager Frank Lampard.
With the arrival of the Argentine, Hargreaves believed the Blues would break back into the top four of the top flight of English football next season.
The former England midfielder said “It’s a great appointment, a brilliant appointment. I think Poch will be an amazing fit for them, and I think they’ll be a top-four side again next season.”
He however pointed out that the new coach must have a clear playing pattern that can win him games,
He further noted that the 51-year-old has a good squad that can win any match if the proper techniques are inculcated into them.
“But Poch will have a clear idea of how he wants to play, and they’ve got some fabulous players. I think Chelsea will be right there again next season.”
Pochettino signed a two-year deal with the club, with an option for a further year
Before moving to Chelsea, the Argentine handled Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Southampton. His managerial function at Chelsea starts July 1.
