Popular activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has been granted bail following his arraignment on alleged impersonation charges, News About Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed by his counsel, Deji Adeyanju, on Friday.
Recall that the activist was arraigned today by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and prosecuted by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, following allegations of unauthorized use of a police uniform in a viral social media video.
The social media critic and influencer was also detained after responding to an invitation over his use of a uniform resembling that of the police without authorization.
Last Thursday, the police condemned the unauthorized use of its official uniforms and accoutrements by VeryDarkMan in a video posted on his social media platforms.
The force also warned other Nigerians against following a similar path, stating that it would not go easy on anyone caught.
Deji Adeyanju, however, stated that his client has been arraigned in court and granted stringent bail terms amounting to N2 million, with two sureties in like sum.
He further disclosed that the court ordered VeryDarkMan to deposit his international passports and any other means of identification.
He stated, “VeryDarkMan arraigned, granted very stringent bail.
“Two million, two sureties in like terms. Sureties to deposit international passports, sureties to provide means of identification. Sureties to depose to an affidavit to produce the defendant during trial at all times.
“Prosecutor to verify sureties’ addresses. Sureties to provide utility bills, defendant to depose to an affidavit to be available at all times during trial. Sureties to reside within the court’s jurisdiction, particularly Abuja municipal.”
