Ondo Guber: INEC Fixes November 8 For Signing Of Peace Accord

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that over two million Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of the governorship election slated to be held on Saturday in Edo State, News About Nigeria reports.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

He noted that the 2,249,780 voters who have collected their PVCs represent 85.57 percent of the 2,629,025 total registered voters in the state.

He stated that 379,245 PVCs, representing 14.43 percent, were uncollected as of Monday, September 16, at the end of the extended period for PVC collection in the state.

Olumekun further noted that the Commission is making available data on PVC collection on a polling unit basis in Edo ahead of the governorship election to be held on Saturday, September 21.

According to him, there are 4,519 polling units in the state, adding that voting will take place in each unit on Saturday.

“The detailed breakdown of the number of PVCs collected, as well as the number uncollected in each unit, has been uploaded to our website for guidance of political parties, candidates, and public information,” he stated.

Recall that the PVC collection process for newly registered voters began at the ward level from the 22nd to 26th of August 2024, which was followed by collection at the various local government offices from the 28th of August till the 8th of September.

An extension was, however, granted from the 13th to the 15th of September, as a result of appeals from stakeholders.
