Sam Amadi, former chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has charged Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo State, to be watchful ahead the Edo state governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated September 21 for the conduct of the off-cycle election in Edo state.
Amadi alleged that Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state, can not win without rigging.
Oshiomhole, also a senator representing Edo North district, has been a frontliner in the campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo.
In a post on his X page on Thursday, the former NERC boss said the people of the state should pay more attention to the Nigerian police, alleging that they were the problem.
“In Edo election, the focus should not be much on @inecnigeria. In off season elections, INEC comes out well,” Amadi wrote
“The security, especially @PoliceNG is the problem. Watch them slowly.
“@GovernorObaseki should never close his eyes. Adams can’t win without rigging.”
News About Nigeria reported that Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), proscribed the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) from participating in the gubernatorial elections.
He also stated that the police operatives will be supported by other security agencies to ensure a credible election process.
“No private or state-owned security apparatus would be allowed to operate during and after the election,” the IGP said.
“All quasi-security operatives in Edo State should refrain from participating in the Edo election. Activities of the Edo State Security Network that have been suspended remain suspended.
“35,000 police officers have been deployed for the election, while 8,000 security agents drawn from other national agencies will support the police,” he added.
