Nigerians are rejoicing and celebrating the release of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, after he served a four-month prison sentence.
The self-proclaimed ‘Mummy of Lagos’ was sentenced to six months without the option of a fine by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court on April 5, 2024, after pleading guilty to a three-count charge of naira abuse and mutilation.
Justice Awogboro stated that the punishment was intended to serve as a deterrent to others who might commit similar offences.
Despite Bobrisky’s plea for mercy and his promise to use his influence to educate his followers on the law, his sentence was upheld.
The sentencing sparked an uproar on social media, with many netizens arguing that, as a first-time offender, Bobrisky should have been given the option of a fine.
His release, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 5, 2024, was conducted under tight security.
All entry and exit points of the prison were heavily guarded to prevent fans and well-wishers from accessing the influencer.
Following his release, Bobrisky was seen celebrating his freedom with friends.
A video surfaced showing him enjoying the song “Egwu” by Mohbad and Chike, surrounded by jubilant friends who congratulated him on his release, saying, “We are out of prison. Congratulations, Bobrisky.”
As videos of his release circulated on the internet, many Nigerians took to social media to welcome the social media influencer and crossdresser, expressing that they had missed his content dearly.

In an interview with GoldMyneTV post-release, Bobrisky advised, “Follow the rules, abide by the law. Don’t spray money, unless you’ll be a landlord inside Kirikiri.
He added, “It’s not just about killing or any criminal activity; something light like this can take you there. I’m only focusing on my friends who were there for me, and I’m grateful. I’m not thinking about any other person.
