Be Patient With Tinubu, He'll Deliver - Gowon To Nigerians

A former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), charged Nigerians on Wednesday to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, News About Nigeria reports.

According to him, this is because the President is trying his best to save Nigeria’s economy from further decline, so, they have to be patient with him.

Gowon, who spoke in an interview with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Tinubu on Wednesday, added that it was too early to anticipate a flawless outcome from the current administration.

The former head of state, however, admitted the current economic hardship plaguing the nation and charged Nigerians to not give up as the government of the day is working towards rebuilding the economy.

He said, “I was telling him (President Tinubu) that there’s no Nigerian leader that can get there, that will not get all of these, all that is being said about him. But certainly, there is no doubt about all that one has heard and seen from various media. I think the government is trying its best to deal with the various problems in the country.

“But with Nigerians, don’t worry, you will get criticised but people who get there know better than you know. I think all one can say to Nigerians is that they have to give the president time to get things done, and it is too early to sort of say a perfect result will be achieved. That is my opinion.”

Speaking further, Gowon narrated his own experience as a head of state. He said he also suffered from different criticisms from Nigerians.

He noted that there were people who called him a slow leader and one who was leading the nation into destruction by fighting the war but at the end of the day he was able to serve well without any of their speculations and criticisms happening.

Gowon, who also revealed that he was visiting Tinubu for the first time after he was sworn in, noted that he believes that the President is capable of delivering his promise to Nigerians and to also stabilise the economy.
