The Kano state government has revealed that it will be spending N4 billion on advancing technology in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mohammed Tajo Othman, disclosed this on Monday, stating that it will ensure digital literacy and also reduce rural-urban migration.
Othman, who spoke shortly after declaring the 11th meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy in Kano open, noted that the government will migrate most of the ministries, departments, and agencies in the state to cloud computing in a bid to implement e-government in the shortest possible time.
He further noted that the government will establish a strong technological presence in emerging cities like Wudil, Bichi, Gaya, Danbatta, Rano, Tudun Wada, and other cities in the state, not limiting it to just Kano, adding that this will help reduce rural-urban migration.
He stated that establishing these technologies in other cities in the state will see to it that the residents don’t have to travel to the state capital for every task that involves the internet.
The allocation of the N4 billion, according to the commissioner, will provide additional support from various sources, noting that the state government plans on piloting the project this year and expanding it across different LGAs next year.
He also stated that pilot CBT centres will be established in each local government area, and secondary school students will be trained in order for them to keep up with the shift towards computer-based examinations.
