Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has been advised by attorney Abideen Adeniran to put off the scheduled ceremony to present the office staff to Oba Sefiu Oyebola, Adeyeri III, and Ajirotutu I, the new Aseyin of Iseyin.
News About Nigeria reported that the state government had previously announced that the ceremony would take place on Thursday, December 14.
The Aseyin stool became vacant in 2022 following the demise of Oba Abdul-Ganiyu Salawudeen, Ajinese Ologunebi 1, at the age of 62.
Adeniran argues that the Oyo State administration, led by Governor Makinde, ought to be aware of a lawsuit that is currently proceeding in the Oyo State High Court in Iseyin, bearing the case number HOI/04/2023, which is about the dispute over the stool of the ancient town.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Adeniran, who serves as counsel for Prince Abdulganiyu Bolanle, has warned the government against proceeding with its plan to present the staff of office to Oba Oyebola.
“Whenever an injunction has been applied for and the same is pending before a court of competent jurisdiction, it is apposite for all concerned not to do anything that will affect the subject matter of the injunction until the motion for an injunction has been heard and determined by the High Court even if no order of injunction has been made,” the statement read.
Citing a relevant legal precedent, Adeniran pleaded with Governor Makinde to postpone any action pertaining to the Aseyin of Iseyin chieftaincy until the Iseyin High Court’s application on notice for interlocutory injunction, which is still pending, has been heard and decided.
