Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has clarified that a video showing the president urging Nigerians to be patient with his administration is not recent but from an older broadcast.
In the video, which News About Nigeria sighted on President Tinubu’s X account on Wednesday, he acknowledged the current challenges facing the country, including hunger and hardship, and asked Nigerians to give his government more time to implement its policies.
He stated that although the situation is tough, the government’s plans will soon begin to take effect, leading the country out of its current difficulties.
“Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us, and there’s no doubt that it is tough, but I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. All our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they will work,” Tinubu said in the video.
He also addressed the delay between the removal of the fuel subsidy and the implementation of relief measures, calling it an “avoidable lag.”
He assured Nigerians that the government will improve the country’s situation, including making education more affordable and providing loans to students in need.
However, Onanuga has confirmed that this video is not new.
In a statement, he noted that the footage is from a 2023 broadcast and that President Tinubu has not made any new public statements since his last address on Sunday.
“A trending video of President Tinubu which came out on Wednesday is not a new video. It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year,” Onanuga wrote.
“President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.”
