BBNaija Star Bisola Aiyeola Defends Her Parenting Choices

Big Brother Naija alumna and actress Bisola Aiyeola has addressed the criticism she faces over her parenting decisions, News About Nigeria reports.

During an appearance on the latest episode of ‘Mums Next Door’ with Maria Chike, Bisola discussed the criticism she receives for not allowing her daughter to use a phone until she turns 16.

Bisola explained that she has been firm about this rule, telling her 15-year-old daughter that she will not have a phone until she reaches 16.

She revealed that many people judged her for this decision, questioning how her daughter would handle emergencies or keep up with her peers academically.

However, Bisola assured that her daughter has a laptop for schoolwork and can communicate with friends via Zoom.

“Yes, I have been judged by my parenting skills. My daughter turned 15 this year, and she still doesn’t have a phone. I have been pretty strict with that part of her life, and she kind of begged. I told her she wouldn’t have a phone till she was 16, so she still had one more year to go,” Bisola shared.

She continued, “People have been asking me, what if there is an emergency? Wouldn’t she be behind her peers and all, but she has a laptop for schoolwork. If her friends need to talk to her, they can call her on Zoom. Sometimes, people feel like I am overdoing it, or I am trying to be overprotective, and I am like, well, that’s your business.”

Bisola also recounted an incident where she discovered her daughter had opened a Snapchat account on her laptop, which led to her extending the phone ban for another year.

“There was a time I found out she opened a Snapchat account on a laptop, and I was like, how? I disciplined her, which made me extend her phone usage by a year because she was supposed to get it this year at 15,” she said.
