We’ll Fix Our Party, So We Won’t Lose Peter Obi To Merger – LP

Peter Obi Urges Donations For Needy Instead Of Birthday Gifts For Him

The Labour Party (LP) stated on Friday that they will work on the crisis currently rocking the party to avoid losing the party’s flagbearer in the last election, Peter Obi.

This was said by the LP National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, in an interview on Channels Television.

According to Arabambi, the Labour Party won’t allow Peter Obi to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as it is determined to work on the internal issues they are facing.

Arabambi said this in light of speculation that there is ongoing merger talk between Peter Obi and the PDP candidate in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar.

According to the LP chieftain, the party is seeking a political solution to its crisis so that Obi won’t work with Atiku in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Arabambi said, “Politically, we will not allow the crisis to fester for long; we will not allow Mr. Peter Obi to join Atiku. We knew their plans; that was why we said we need to explore political solutions between ourselves.”

Similarly, News About Nigeria had earlier reported that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP had also countered speculations that there is an ongoing merger talk between Atiku and Peter Obi.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP clarified that it was not engaged in any merger, fusion, or amalgamation talks with any political party or interest.

According to Ologunagba, this is because, without the merger, the PDP is capable of independently winning elections, as it has done in the past.
