Inauguration Of Tertiary Institutions' Gov Council Postponed

The inauguration of members of the governing councils in tertiary institutions has been postponed by the Federal Government, News About Nigeria reports.

The postponement was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo.

She explained that the inauguration, which was previously scheduled to be held on the 30th and 31st of May 2024, has now been moved forward as a result of the presidential directive to carry out a comprehensive review of the membership of the Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

She stated that the directive was released on May 23, 2024, and was conveyed by the State House Press.

“The Federal Ministry of Education regrets to announce the postponement of the Inauguration and Retreat for Pro-Chancellors, Chairmen, and Members of the Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions, earlier scheduled for Thursday, 30th and Friday, 31st May 2024.

“This is as a result of the Presidential Directive, as conveyed by the State House Press Release dated 23rd May 2024, for a comprehensive review of the membership of the Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, the statement reads.

While it said it regretted any inconveniences the action may cause, the government assured that further updates would be communicated in due course.

Recall that the Federal Government had earlier approved the appointments of 555 persons to serve as pro-chancellors/chairmen and members of the governing boards of 111 federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The appointment of the governing council came after President Tinubu’s assent to a list of nominees selected by the Ministry of Education.
