Labour Party Renames Obident Movement After Criticism

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has clarified his visit to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that it was not an endorsement of any group interest.

News About Nigeria reports that the former Anambra State governor said his visit was part of ongoing efforts to promote peace and unity within the party.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, on Wednesday, Obi explained that his goal is to bring all party members together as one strong family, rather than endorsing any individual or group’s interest.

The statement further clarified that contrary to media reports, Obi has been engaging in consultations to resolve internal party conflicts and ensure a united front.

“The visit was part of the consultations Obi has been embarking on in search of peace in the party.

“In line with this, he also met with the political arm of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday in continuation of his search for peace in the party,” the statement said.

On Wednesday, Obi met with the political arm of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), led by Comrade Titus Amba and Comrade Chris Uyot, as part of his peace initiative.

The leadership of the NLC/TUC political commission expressed their support for peace in the party.

Obi expressed gratitude to the leadership of the political commission for their understanding and looked forward to a positive working relationship. He also plans to meet with other key stakeholders, including the Obidient Movement, to create a united and inclusive political family with a shared goal of rescuing Nigeria.

During his visit to the Labour Party’s National Secretariat on Tuesday, Obi addressed a large gathering of party supporters.

He stressed that political parties exist to serve the nation and its citizens, and it is everyone’s responsibility to work together to ensure Nigeria’s survival. According to him, “Nigeria is the only country we have.”
