Gani Adams Criticises FG Policies, Calls For Relief Measures

Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has strongly criticised the policies implemented by the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government, News About Nigeria reports.

Speaking during the 2024 edition of the Oke Ibadan festival organised by the Olokun Festival Foundation in Ibadan, Oyo State, Gani Adams said the policies are causing hardship and suffering among Nigerians.

While acknowledging his support for certain government initiatives, such as the introduction of independent power supply in states, Adams pointed out the negative effects of recent policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and the increase in electricity tariffs.

He called on the government to address the resulting suffering experienced by citizens.

“One of the major policies of this administration that I applauded at the onset was the idea of having an Independent Power Supply in the states,” Adams stated.

“There are a lot of advantages the states can get from this initiative. However, Nigerians have continued to raise their voices against the policy, even as power outages persist in the country. The new tariffs have become a big problem for Nigerians.”

Adams went on to lament the consequences of the hike in electricity tariffs, saying that it has taken a toll on all sectors of the Nigerian economy, worsening the challenges faced by the populace.

He also criticised the removal of fuel subsidy, attributing it to increased hardships and inflationary pressures on Nigerians, further straining the economy.

In addition to his critique of economic policies, Adams called for the urgent need for the establishment of state police forces.

He said that the security of lives and property is a primary responsibility of the government.
